The Workplace Relations Commission ruled Brendan Murphy’s age discrimination complaint against North Leinster Citizens Information Service was out of time. The decision, dated 12 July 2024, says the merits of his complaint were not decided. Murphy said he abandoned an application for a part-time information officer job after being told on 28 March 2023 that, if he were offered the role and was over 66, he could not take it up. The WRC received his complaint on 2 January 2024, beyond the six-month time limit. He sought an extension, citing unsuccessful attempts to submit the form and recent age discrimination cases. Adjudication officer Gaye Cunningham found no actual impediment that prevented him from filing within the time limit and declined to extend it. The complaint was therefore out of time; its merits were not considered.
