The Workplace Relations Commission allowed Agnieszka Schoen’s redundancy appeal and found her minimum-notice complaint well founded after her employer’s business closed. The decision is dated 17 May 2024. Schoen worked as a shop assistant at Europhil Service Station Ltd. from 1 April 2012 until 19 September 2023, earning €260 a week. The business closed suddenly, and she said she could not reach the employer to claim her entitlements. The employer did not attend the hearing despite being notified. The WRC said Schoen was entitled to statutory redundancy calculated at two weeks per year or part-year of service, plus a week, subject to confirmation that her employment was insurable for this purpose. It also awarded her six weeks’ notice pay. The decision gives the basis for calculating redundancy but does not state a final lump sum.
