The Workplace Relations Commission dismissed Dr Joanne Mancini’s complaint that National University of Ireland, Maynooth discriminated against and victimised her in two Professor B promotion processes. The decision was dated 6 December 2024.

Mancini said the promotion criteria and the handling of her 2019 appeal disadvantaged her after she raised concerns about possible gender bias. She also alleged that the university refused an extension for her 2021 application despite extensions having been granted to male candidates. The university denied discrimination and said its process was fair.

The WRC accepted jurisdiction, treating the alleged events as a continuum ending with the unsuccessful appeal notification on 2 June 2023. It found that Mancini had not established a presumption of discrimination or victimisation. The adjudicator found no evidence that the criteria favoured men, considered the comparator’s extension circumstances different and found the victimisation claim unsubstantiated. No award was recorded.
