The Workplace Relations Commission directed Eureka Manufacturing Limited to pay Michael O'Brien €480 for unpaid wages and €1,920 compensation for lack of notice. The decision was dated 5 September 2024. O'Brien worked in sales and assembly for the folding-furniture business from January 2016. He told the WRC he was owed wages for the fortnight due on 29 September 2023. When he went to work on 2 October, he was told there was no more work as the business had closed. The company did not attend the hearing. The WRC upheld his wage complaint and found he had received no notice, awarding compensation equal to four weeks' notice. It also found he was entitled to a statutory redundancy payment based on his service and gross weekly pay of €240, but gave no lump-sum figure.
