The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Hubavena Musova €1,020 after finding that Dublin Centre Of Education failed to give her proper written notice when it halved her working hours. The decision was dated 22 April 2024. Musova’s hours fell from 30 to 15 a week after her class was discontinued and later merged. The centre said declining enrolment and reduced business activity led to the change. The adjudication officer said employers must notify staff in writing of changes to key employment terms, including working hours, and found that the centre’s response to Musova’s grievance did not meet that requirement. The award was two weeks’ wages at her pre-reduction rate.
