The Workplace Relations Commission rejected Vanessa Corral’s claim that Gardaí discriminated against her because she is Spanish when she reported incidents. The decision, dated 5 July 2024, found she had not established that she was treated less favourably because of her nationality.
Corral said Gardaí failed to follow up or investigate reports involving an assault by a neighbour, a parcel opened at work, being held in a workplace elevator and hair-pulling in public. The WRC said it could consider how Gardaí took her complaints, but crime investigations and prosecutions fell outside its jurisdiction under the Equal Status Act. It found the reports had been recorded and that the evidence did not establish discrimination in the taking of complaints.
