The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Courtney Carey €35,000 after finding she was unfairly dismissed by Wix Online Platforms Limited. The decision was dated 5 July 2024. Carey said she was dismissed after voicing concerns about the conflict in Palestine; WIX accepted that the dismissal was procedurally unfair and argued compensation should reflect her financial loss.
The WRC calculated 26 weeks of unemployment as a €20,000 loss, then estimated a further €18,453.30 in prospective loss because Carey earned less in her new job. It found her efforts to find work were not sufficiently documented and that she had not done enough to limit her losses. The €35,000 award was compensation for financial loss arising from the dismissal.
