WRC awards Renata Magazzu €500 after finding she was dismissed without notice

The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Hair Experts Liffey Street to pay Renata Magazzu €500 after finding she was dismissed without notice. The decision was dated 12 March 2024. Magazzu said she had asked for a new employment contract after returning to work in March 2023, with a higher hourly rate and changed personal details. The adjudicator found her 2022 contract met the legal requirements and dismissed that complaint as not well founded. The adjudicator found Magazzu had been looking for another job but had not planned to leave on 12 October 2023, when her employer dismissed her. After accounting for her break in service, she had completed 19 months and was entitled to one week's notice. The €500 compensation was equivalent to one week's pay and was not subject to tax, PRSI or USC deductions.
