Minodora Pit wins statutory redundancy entitlement after El Vino closes

Minodora Pit was found entitled to statutory redundancy after the restaurant where she worked closed. The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) said she qualified for a payment based on her service, subject to her employment being insurable for this purpose. In a decision dated 7 May 2024, the WRC said Pit had worked as a server for the restaurant, which closed on 31 August 2023. Her hours had fallen from 38 to 15 a week from 1 January 2023, and she earned €12.44 an hour. Her entitlement is calculated at two weeks’ pay for each year or part-year of service, plus one week, using gross weekly wages of €187.50. The respondent did not attend the hearing.
