The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Mary Tracy €35,000 after finding that Smurfit Kappa Ireland Ltd t/a the Educational Company Of Ireland discriminated against her by dismissing her on disability grounds. The decision was dated 6 January 2025.
Tracy alleged discriminatory dismissal and victimisation connected with the dismissal and internal appeal. The company rejected the claims. The WRC found the victimisation complaint was not well founded, saying it was not satisfied that the appeal process was conducted in reaction to equality proceedings.
