WRC rejects Louise Sheeran’s redundancy appeal against Aurivo

The Workplace Relations Commission has rejected Louise Sheeran’s appeal for statutory redundancy pay from Aurivo, finding her graduate position was not made redundant. The decision was dated 26 January 2024. Sheeran worked on Aurivo’s graduate training programme from September 2019 until her fixed-term contract expired in March 2023. She believed her role had not been replaced. Aurivo said it had tried to fill the vacancy and offered the position to a replacement. The adjudicator found that the contract had expired and Aurivo continued trying to fill the position. Under the statutory test, the post was not made redundant, so the appeal was not upheld.
