The Workplace Relations Commission found that Source & Supply Logistics Limited Ssl Ltd. discriminated against Jess Quinn on grounds of gender and awarded her €7,500. The decision was dated 8 March 2024.

Quinn said she was told a manual-handling role at Merlin Park was open only to men because it involved carrying boxes up stairs. She applied but was not interviewed. The employer said the work needed two physically capable workers for safety reasons and denied that the role was restricted to men.

The adjudication officer found the employer had not assessed whether Quinn could lift the boxes or offered her a trial before deciding she was unsuitable. The officer concluded that the employer had not shown equal treatment and upheld her complaint. The Employment Equality Act requires employers to treat people equally regardless of gender; the award was €7,500.
