WRC awards bus driver €1,100 after finding he was unfairly dismissed

The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Bonanza Bus to pay former driver John O’Connor €1,100, equal to four weeks’ pay, after finding he was unfairly dismissed. The decision was dated 24 February 2025. O’Connor said he was told not to return after a dispute over using and parking the bus between shifts. The company said he resigned and cited damage to the vehicle, including a roof repair costing €2,500. The adjudication officer criticised both sides, noting O’Connor had not lodged a grievance and that the company appeared to lack employee policies and procedures. The award was payable within 42 days of the decision.
