The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) rejected Lisa Schneider’s complaint seeking a redundancy payment from Majorel Ireland Limited. The WRC dated its decision 28 May 2024, finding that Schneider had been offered suitable alternative employment and refused it.

Schneider worked as a Quality Analyst for Majorel from 2020 until June 2023, when her role was due to end during a department wind-down. She said she had signed a compromise and settlement letter confirming her redundancy payment, but Majorel later withdrew it after offering her another role. She argued that refusing the offer should not cancel the agreement and questioned whether the role was secure as the Dublin project was closing.

Majorel said its redundancy notice made payment conditional on no suitable alternative role becoming available before her employment ended. It said the proposed role kept the same salary, title, responsibilities and terms, with French no longer required. The company also said the settlement needed a witness signature and was not complete. The adjudication officer found the alternative role suitable and concluded that there had been no breach of the Redundancy Payments Act. The complaint was not well founded.
