The Workplace Relations Commission found that video production company We Are Defiant owed former worker Ismael Diarra €3,350 in work expenses, but said it could not order payment under the Payment of Wages Act. The decision was dated 7 May 2024. Diarra said he worked part-time as a wedding videographer and editor for €250 a week, and that the company had not fully reimbursed car rental, tolls and other work costs. He claimed the expenses related to assignments, including a wedding in Westport where he had an accident in a rental car. The WRC said the complaint was lodged outside the statutory time limit, even allowing for an extension. It also found that expenses are excluded from the Act’s definition of wages, so it had no authority to direct the company to pay them under that law. The complaint was not well founded.
