WRC upholds Katie Hughes’s appeal for statutory redundancy pay

The Workplace Relations Commission upheld Katie Hughes’s appeal against Hair and Beauty By Helen’s refusal to pay statutory redundancy after the business closed. The decision was dated 10 October 2023. Hughes began work in July 2020 and her employment ended in November 2022. She submitted an RP77 request for redundancy pay in March 2023 and received no reply. Her former employer said the business had ceased trading and it could not pay the claims. The WRC found Hughes had established entitlement and had claimed appropriately. Payment is subject to her having been in insurable employment during the relevant dates; the decision gives gross weekly pay of €334.60 as a calculation detail.
