The Workplace Relations Commission ordered former postmaster Paul Medve to pay Jade Jakhu €2,190, equal to four weeks’ salary, after finding he failed to meet obligations when transferring the Castletroy Post Office business. The decision was dated 13 May 2024.

Jakhu had worked at the post office since 2019. She said she learned it had closed while she was on annual leave, then spoke with the new owner about continuing her work. She told the adjudicator that she was informed her pay rate would fall, her hours would increase and she would take on extra responsibilities.

Medve said he resigned for medical reasons and that An Post had assured him staff employment would continue under a successor. The adjudicator found a transfer of undertaking had taken place and that Medve had an opportunity to transfer employment rights and inform staff about the change, but failed to do so. The complaint was well founded.
