The Workplace Relations Commission ordered John Mount t/a The Bakers Table to pay former chef John Gleeson €1,342 after finding an unlawful deduction from his wages. The decision was dated 18 December 2023. Mr Gleeson said he worked for about five weeks at €16 an hour and was owed pay for his final two weeks and two days, as well as annual leave pay. The WRC found he had not been paid for work from 5 to 21 April 2023 or for 21 hours of accrued annual leave. The respondent did not attend the hearing. Under the Payment of Wages Act 1991, an unlawful deduction is money owed to a worker that an employer has withheld.
