The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) found Sylwester Hajdul was unfairly dismissed by Hearthill Interiors Limited and awarded him €3,400. The decision was dated 15 November 2023. The WRC also upheld his complaint that he had not received written employment terms and ordered €566 compensation. Hajdul worked as a partition and ceiling fitter. He said he was dismissed by text after a dispute at work and had received no written terms. The company said he left the site of his own accord and accepted it had not given him written terms. The adjudication officer found the company had accused him of gross misconduct but followed no fair procedures before dismissing him. Hajdul found new work six weeks later at the same rate of pay; the €3,400 award was approximately six weeks’ pay. The €566 award for the missing written terms equalled one week’s wages.
