The Workplace Relations Commission has found against Kevin Kielty in a complaint that Inland Fisheries Ireland treated him less favourably as a fixed-term worker over an unsocial-hours allowance. In a decision dated 1 March 2024, Kielty said he worked more than 400 unsocial hours during his six-month contract and was not paid for 200 hours, which he valued at about €3,000. Inland Fisheries Ireland said the allowance had a minimum hours threshold that was doubled for permanent staff on a pro-rata basis. The WRC found the allowance terms were applied on a pro-rata basis and that Kielty received the maximum contractual allowance for his employment period. It found the complaint was not well-founded.
