The Workplace Relations Commission found Aldi worker Keyte Mc Cauley’s race discrimination complaint not well founded in a decision dated 15 December 2023. Mc Cauley had also brought two Equal Status Act complaints, which she withdrew at the hearing. She said she missed a Christmas voucher and was required to work weekends; she alleged race discrimination by her store manager. Aldi said the voucher omission was an error, apologised and denied that the treatment was connected to race. The adjudication officer accepted that the missing voucher and the inadequate response left Mc Cauley feeling unfairly treated, but found no evidence linking the alleged treatment to her race. The officer said unfair treatment alone did not establish discrimination under the Employment Equality Act.
