The Workplace Relations Commission found that Artis Lapins was not unfairly dismissed by Sba Flight Support Services Ltd. in a decision dated 11 December 2023. Lapins argued that his redundancy selection was unfair because the employer did not follow last in, first out and its consultation process was flawed. He also questioned why a less senior worker was retained and whether other roles were available. The company said travel restrictions had badly affected its business and it had outsourced credit control, making the relevant roles redundant. The WRC found the company had grounds for the redundancy and followed a fair process. Lapins received €9,565.33 in connection with his termination; this was a payment by the employer, not a WRC award.
