The Workplace Relations Commission found that Tesco Ireland Limited discriminated against Karen Rice by failing to provide reasonable accommodation for her disability. Adjudication Officer Breiffni O'Neill dated the decision 16 January 2025.
Rice said Tesco did not meaningfully assess adjustments that could help her return to work. Tesco said it managed her sick leave through welfare meetings and occupational health appointments. The officer found no evidence that the meetings considered potential changes to her role, and said Tesco did not arrange an ophthalmologist review recommended by its doctor.
