The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Kilcullen Asian World Food Limited to pay Sebastian Uglis €1,134.24, equivalent to four weeks’ pay, after finding the complaint about written employment terms well founded. The decision was dated 5 September 2023. Uglis said he received no contract during his nine months with the company and was disadvantaged because he did not know workplace procedures. The employer said contracts were issued on the first day and submitted a contract; its representative acknowledged it was unsigned through an oversight. The adjudicator found that the document was unsigned and undated by the employer, did not name Uglis or state his start date or pay rate, and omitted mandatory terms. The award is compensation for breach of a statutory right, not wages or arrears.
