WRC awards Alexander Novakovsky €1,760 in minimum-notice case

The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Phillip Kane t/a Kane's Yourstop to pay Alexander Novakovsky €1,760 after finding he had received only one week’s notice instead of the six weeks due. The decision was dated 15 September 2023. The WRC also found Kane was Novakovsky’s employer and that Novakovsky was entitled to statutory redundancy payment, subject to having been in insurable employment. The entitlement was based on employment from 29 September 2005 to 16 December 2022, 32 hours a week and gross weekly pay of €352. Kane had argued that responsibility lay with the previous owners, who were in liquidation.
