The Workplace Relations Commission found no discrimination in Sandra Adams’ complaint after she was refused entry to a National Women's Council of Ireland event in Dublin. Adjudication Officer Elizabeth Spelman found the Council’s decision was a safety measure permitted by the Equal Status Act.
The WRC decision was dated 1 February 2024. Adams said she was discriminated against on the religion ground when she was refused entry to the event on 9 June 2022. The Council said it acted after a widely circulated statement named a board member and announced plans for an action at the event.
Spelman found the statement created a substantial risk of disorder and that the Council could refuse entry under section 15(1) of the Equal Status Act. The complaint was not well founded.
