WRC rules Edwina Colton entitled to redundancy payment after Tallaght café closed

The Workplace Relations Commission ruled that Edwina Colton is entitled to a statutory redundancy payment after the café where she worked in Tallaght closed. The decision was dated 5 January 2023, and the entitlement is subject to her PRSI contribution status. Colton began working as a catering assistant at O’Brien’s Bagel Factory in June 2014. The café closed during the Covid-19 pandemic and did not reopen. The WRC found the employer had ceased operations at her workplace and that she had more than two years’ service, qualifying her for a statutory payment based on service from June 2014 to 31 December 2020.
