The Workplace Relations Commission awarded a worker €10,000 after finding her dismissal unfair when her role was made redundant without consultation or an opportunity to appeal. The decision was dated 20 March 2025.
The worker said she had told her employer she was undergoing IVF treatment and needed time off. After returning from two weeks away, she received a letter saying her role was redundant. The employer was in liquidation and did not contest the complaint.
The adjudication officer found the complaint well founded based on the uncontested evidence that there had been no consultation and the worker was denied an appeal. The WRC awarded €10,000 compensation.
