WRC finds security guard’s dismissal for misconduct was fair

The Workplace Relations Commission found that Donatus Okafor’s dismissal by Synergy Security Solution was fair in a decision dated 21 April 2023. Okafor challenged his dismissal after his employer said he had been found with his eyes closed while on duty at Google Barrow Street in Dublin. He disputed that he had fallen asleep and argued that dismissal was disproportionate. The adjudicator found that the conduct was established and that the employer had carried out a full investigation and disciplinary process. The complaint was not well founded.
