The Workplace Relations Commission directed Melia's Butchers to pay Matthew Walsh €4,376, subject to taxation and normal statutory deductions, after finding his complaint about unpaid minimum notice well founded. Walsh was entitled to eight weeks’ pay in lieu of notice. The decision was dated 16 January 2023. Walsh had worked as a butcher for the business from about February 1993 until it closed in November 2021. The Adjudication Officer accepted that Walsh reasonably relied on assurances that his notice payment was being processed and extended the time limit for his claim. The award was calculated using gross weekly earnings of €547.
