WRC says District Court must hear discrimination claim against The Brass Fox

The Workplace Relations Commission said it had no jurisdiction to determine Sarah Rebecca Stokes’s Equal Status complaint against The Brass Fox, a licensed gastro pub. The decision was dated 13 March 2023, and the merits were not decided. Stokes alleged she was refused dinner service because she is a member of the Travelling Community. She said a man who appeared to be the manager told her family there were no tables and that he knew their tribes. The WRC said claims concerning alleged discrimination on or at licensed premises may be brought to the District Court. The respondent did not attend the hearing, but the jurisdictional ruling was based on the licensed status of the premises.
