The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Ronald Corbett €60,000 in compensation after finding he was unfairly dismissed by Cluain Training & Enterprise Centre Company Limited. The decision was dated 6 December 2023.
Corbett had worked as the centre manager since 1994. The employer conceded the dismissal was substantively and procedurally unfair, leaving the amount of compensation to be decided. The adjudicator calculated his weekly pay as €1,256.91, rejecting his claim that his pay should be based on higher HSE scales.
The adjudicator found Corbett had not sufficiently looked for alternative jobs after January 2023 and that his move towards psychotherapy and lecturing contributed to his income shortfall. She found he made no contribution to his dismissal and that the balance of unfairness lay with the employer. The award covered actual, ongoing and future losses.
His working-time and payment-of-wages complaints were withdrawn before the hearing.
