The Workplace Relations Commission found Laila Estrika entitled to statutory redundancy after the bakery where she worked closed. The decision, dated 7 December 2022, said her entitlement was based on employment from 15 October 2005 to 31 March 2022 and gross weekly pay of €234. Estrika said she had not received a redundancy payment before the hearing. The company had emailed the WRC the previous day saying payments had been made to all employees, and attached a cheque and calculation for her. Estrika disputed the calculation, saying it used a 2007 start date and weekly pay of €264. The respondent did not attend the hearing. Adjudication Officer Emile Daly found a redundancy situation existed and upheld the complaint. If a payment made before the decision issued was less than her statutory entitlement, the company had to ensure she received the full amount. The decision did not state a specific payment figure.
