WRC awards SNA €500 over employment contract

The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Roslyn Barrett €500 compensation after finding St Gabriel's Special School had not complied with the law on written employment terms. The decision was dated 23 August 2023. Barrett, a special needs assistant, said she had not received a signed written contract within a month of starting work. The school said a contract had been signed but could not produce a copy, relying on correspondence, an appointment form and a blank contract template. The adjudicator found that what had happened did not meet the Act’s requirements and directed payment within 42 days.
