Woodies must pay Natalie Kilduff €4,093.44, equal to eight weeks’ pay, after the Workplace Relations Commission found she was entitled to minimum notice when it dismissed her. The WRC decision was dated 15 February 2024.
Kilduff, who had worked for Woodies since 2001, said five days’ pay were deducted in July 2021 and that she had not been notified of a change to her working terms. Woodies said the deduction covered an unpaid disciplinary suspension and that her contract required evening and weekend work.
The WRC found the pay and terms complaints not well founded, and did not allow her redundancy appeal. It found that she had been offered a transfer or another role. But the officer concluded that the stated insubordination did not justify dismissing her without notice, noting that she continued working until her dismissal despite earlier refusals to work rostered shifts.
