The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Synergy Security Solutions to pay security officer Abdor Bhuiyan €7,000 after finding the company unlawfully withheld wages and holiday pay. The decision was dated 6 January 2023.
The WRC found the company breached the law by not paying holiday pay in advance for approved leave. It also found that Bhuiyan was prevented from returning to work for 10 weeks, resulting in an unlawful deduction from his wages. The company said its policy did not allow annual leave directly after sick leave and did not attend the hearing.
The €7,000 was compensation under the Payment of Wages Act 1991. The complaint was found well founded.
