The Workplace Relations Commission found that Centz Retail Holdings Ltd. unfairly dismissed Sarah Treacy and discriminated against her, awarding €55,000 for gender pay discrimination. The decision was dated 7 February 2024.

The WRC found the company failed to make reasonable accommodation for Treacy’s disability after refusing occasional home working without assessing her needs. It also found she did like work with a male colleague who was paid more. The company disputed that the roles involved like work and said it had followed its grievance process.

The WRC awarded €15,000 for unfair dismissal, €5,000 for disability discrimination, €55,000 for gender pay discrimination and €1,984.01 for unpaid wages and holiday pay. It found Treacy’s efforts to limit her losses after dismissal were less than adequate. Her victimisation complaint was not well founded, and two other complaints, including one under the Protected Disclosures Act, were withdrawn.
