The Workplace Relations Commission awarded James Keegan €120 for two public holidays and found he was entitled to a statutory redundancy lump sum, subject to qualifying insurable employment. The decision was dated 29 August 2022. Keegan, a part-time barman at Old Belvedere Rugby Club, said he was not contacted after a pandemic lay-off and presumed his job was redundant when the bar reopened. The club said his father had told it that Keegan would not return, which it treated as a resignation. The adjudicator found Keegan had not resigned and that it was reasonable for him to conclude his position was redundant. The redundancy entitlement was based on employment beginning 4 April 2011, termination on 20 December 2021, gross weekly pay of €147 and a non-reckonable break from 13 March 2020 to 20 December 2021. The WRC also awarded €120 for two public holidays. Two other complaints were withdrawn.
