Pharmacist awarded €1,000 over missing written employment terms

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The WRC awarded pharmacist Paula Denvir €1,000 after finding her employer, Kilcullen Pharmacy Limited, failed to provide the required written statement of employment terms. The decision was dated 16 January 2023. Denvir said she had not received a contract despite repeated requests and was given one only after a disciplinary process began. The company said a contract had been brought to the shop for her to sign, but its representative acknowledged she had no signed copy and had received requests from the shop manager for staff contracts. Her separate claim for an unpaid €5,000 bonus was not well founded: the adjudication officer found no written agreement setting out the conditions for earning it. A second complaint under the Terms of Employment (Information) Act was withdrawn. Her constructive dismissal complaint was also not well founded; the officer said she had not used the grievance procedures before resigning.
