The Workplace Relations Commission found Mary Catherine Murray’s complaint against estate agent Clare Connolly not well founded, after Murray alleged discrimination when she was not offered an apartment Connolly advertised for rent. The decision was dated 18 January 2023. Murray alleged discrimination on civil status, age and gender grounds, and harassment by spoken words on the phone. The apartment was advertised at €1,975 a month, while Murray offered €1,900. Connolly said the couple who rented it offered the asking price and supplied the requested documents. The adjudicator found Murray had not shown that the couple were younger than her or that the landlord wanted a young tenant. The adjudicator also found the baking evidence did not support a gender discrimination claim, and accepted that Murray had not provided standard proof of funds or offered the full rent when the apartment was let. The complaint was found not well founded.
