WRC dismisses painter’s wage complaint over Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme

The Workplace Relations Commission dismissed Anthony Pigott’s complaint against Malbay Painting and Maintenance Ltd over pay during the Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme. The decision is dated 2 February 2022. Pigott said he worked 40 hours a week from May to August 2020 but received less than his usual gross weekly pay. The company said it used the scheme during a downturn, discussed it with employees and paid an optional top-up. The adjudicator found that Pigott was aware of the scheme during the period covered by the complaint and that the company applied it in line with the governing rules. The complaint was not well founded.
