Karen Doyle was awarded €40,000 after the Workplace Relations Commission found that Rushway Limited T/A Salmon Leap had discriminated against her by dismissing her because she was pregnant. In a decision dated 12 February 2024, the WRC also awarded her €1,923.08 for an employment information breach and €961.54 for failing to give notice.

Doyle said her duties and access to company accounts were withdrawn after she disclosed her pregnancy. The company denied dismissing her and said Covid restrictions had removed the need for her marketing work. The adjudicator found the company knew of her pregnancy when her duties and account access were taken away and had not rebutted the inference that her dismissal was related to her pregnancy.

The WRC did not find discrimination on family status grounds or harassment. Her redundancy complaint was disallowed, and her working time complaint was found not well founded. Five other complaints were withdrawn, and a second minimum notice complaint was treated as a duplicate.
