The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) ordered Neylons Facility Management Limited to pay Celine McDonnell €4,652 after finding she was unfairly dismissed. The WRC, in a decision dated 11 August 2022, rejected her separate minimum-notice complaint.

McDonnell worked as a chef and later head chef at a client’s nursing home. She said she wanted to return as head chef and had not abandoned her job. Neylons said she failed to respond to reassignment offers and had abandoned her employment. The WRC found that she had refused interim chef work, but that Neylons dismissed her without warning or a fair procedure.

The WRC also found McDonnell had not made sufficient efforts to find alternative work, reducing the redress. It recorded gross losses of €13,947 from dismissal to December 2021. Her minimum-notice complaint failed because she had taken another job and was unable to work her notice.
