WRC rejects hotel discrimination complaint over time limit

The WRC found it had no jurisdiction to decide a worker’s complaint that a hotel discriminated against him because of his nationality. The decision was dated 9 March 2022. The worker alleged a waitress treated him and his family less favourably than other breakfast guests. The hotel said staff were preparing for events and the 16-year-old work placement student had been told to clear tables after breakfast. The worker did not notify the hotel in writing within two months of the alleged incident, and the WRC found no reasonable cause to extend the time limit; the merits were not decided.
