WRC awards Aidan McDonald €6,500 after unfair dismissal finding

The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Aidan McDonald €6,500 after finding that his dismissal by Saint Catherine's Association was procedurally unfair. Adjudication Officer Valerie Murtagh dated the decision 9 March 2022. McDonald said he had no formal disciplinary process before his employment ended. The association said it had raised performance concerns with him and did not renew his fixed-term contract when it expired. The WRC found that fair procedures had not been applied in the termination, despite the association's concerns about his performance. The adjudicator said McDonald had not provided evidence of appropriate efforts to limit his financial loss and took that into account when setting compensation.
