The Workplace Relations Commission ordered SBFM Ltd to pay contract cleaner Phillip Duffy €311.04 net compensation after upholding his complaint over delayed wages. The decision was dated 5 January 2023. Duffy said he received no payment from February 2020 until the Covid-19 lockdown and that arrears were paid only after he complained to the WRC. SBFM said he had been paid the correct hourly rate, holiday pay and wage arrears, and that his employment terms had been provided. The WRC found the delay in paying wages was an unlawful deduction under the Payment of Wages Act. It found five other complaints not well founded, including claims about his hourly rate, leave, employment terms and an alleged breach of the Industrial Relations (Amendment) Act.
