WRC awards Stephen Reid €6,350 for unfair dismissal by Gammell Glazing

The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Stephen Reid €6,350 for unfair dismissal by Gammell Glazing Ltd. The decision was dated 12 January 2022. Reid worked as a window fitter and installer. The company said he had been laid off and later declined an offer to return. The adjudication officer found he was dismissed on 15 January 2020, as the company’s letter did not establish that the cessation of work was temporary. No process had been used to justify selecting him for redundancy. The WRC also awarded €2,300 for failing to provide written terms of employment; the award covered both written-terms complaints. His wages and minimum-notice complaints were not well founded, and his fixed-term work complaint was withdrawn.
