WRC complaint against The Book Cafe fails after complainant misses hearing

The Workplace Relations Commission found that Lebam Macaw had not established a prima facie case in her Equal Status complaint against The Book Cafe after she did not attend the hearing. Adjudication officer Orla Jones dated the decision 29 November 2024. Macaw had notified the WRC that she would not attend but did not apply to postpone the hearing. The respondent attended. The decision turned on the absence of evidence establishing facts from which prohibited discrimination could be presumed; it did not decide the underlying allegation on its merits. No award was recorded.
