The WRC awarded an estate agent employee €12,422.81 in unpaid commission after finding that the employer had broken a written commitment to pay commission on property sales. The decision was dated 9 March 2017.
The employee said the commission remained due after he was made redundant. The employer did not attend the hearing, though the adjudication officer was satisfied it had notice of it.
The officer found commission connected to employment was covered by the Payment of Wages Act. An operations manager had written that the employee would be paid for properties already closed and when others closed; the officer found the employer had broken that commitment.
