In 1989, the Labour Court allowed Bus Eireann’s appeal and set aside a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation to pay an unnamed driver £120. The decision was signed on 19 January 1989. The National Busworkers Union had sought compensation after the driver was moved from marked-in service to a spare panel following a reorganisation of bus services in Galway. The union said he had experienced inconvenience. Bus Eireann argued that his depot and working methods had not materially changed, and that it would compensate any future loss of earnings. The Labour Court found the compensation contrary to the practice generally prevailing in the company and allowed the appeal. The £120 recommendation therefore no longer stood.
